Trash folder missing - where are deleted messages ?

Your email service provider may be configured to store deleted messages on their server. Check your email Account > Mailbox Behaviors > Trash Mailbox according to the following:

Change Mailbox Behaviors preferences in Mail on Mac - Apple Support
