Apple card 7 day hold

I have been using an apple card for a little over a year now and usually when I deposit money from my bank it makes it available right away. So my wife and I have chosen to use it as a discretional card. So every couple of weeks we put in about 400-500 onto our apple card to use.

At the end of last month, I put in 200 which ended up getting reversed at the beginning of this month. The day after it got reversed I moved money around in my bank account and deposited 500 to take care of the reversal and have some extra.

Then a couple of days after I added another 150 which didn't become available. I spoke to a support person who said it's a computer thing. I now have to wait 7 business days before it's available and after I make more payments without an issue I might get it to post instantly. During that time my bank account doesn't have that money.

What I don't get is since January I have used my bank to deposit into apple 24 times and 2 of those times were reversed. Meaning 92% of the time this correct year the deposit was successful.

I would like to keep using this card for the convenience of it and I was just about to start using it for kid's allowances but 7 business hold makes it useless for that.

Has anyone been able to successfully reverse this 7 business day hold?

Banks in general take a dim view when a payment is missed, reversed/returned. This is a pattern that is of concern to all banks because statically it’s a sign the account owner is having financial issues. I’m not judging or making accusations, just stating how banks view payment patterns.

Goldman Sachs response is actually fairly liberal in the credit card industry. Some banks will lock accounts or even close accounts for reversed and/or late payments. Many will also lower credit limits and take other measures to protect the bank.

There are several ways to solve this issue. The first is to make your payments to your Apple Card account using your Apple Cash account.

The first step is to setup a debit card for the bank account you want to use for payments. Apple Wallet allows up to 16 cards. If you have multiple accounts for funding sources, set up each debit card in your Apple Wallet.

The second step is to add funds to Apple Cash using the debit card attached to your bank account. If this transfers fails, no harm/no foul. It’s not your credit card account.

The third step is use Apple Cash to make your Apple Card account payment. This is instantly credited and will be instantly reflected in your available balance etc. Paying with Apple Cash is a debit card payment and basically can’t be reversed.

How to make Apple Card payments - Apple Support

From the article,

Pay with Apple Cash or a different bank account

If you choose Pay Now, you can use your Apple Cash balance to make an immediate one-time payment. If the balance of your Apple Cash account is less than the amount of your payment, the remaining balance is paid from your default bank account.

You can also choose a different bank account to pay your Apple Card balance:

  1. Open the Wallet app on your iPhone and tap Apple Card.
  2. Tap Pay.
  3. Choose a payment amount and tap the Pay Now button.
  4. Tap your bank account, then choose a different bank account.
  5. Tap the Back button and authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode to make a payment.

Thank you but I don't believe Apple could or word do anything about it. I have dealt with enough banks to know that reason doesn't work with them. Even though I may think it's to Apple's advantage to have me keep using their card as long as I keep making them more money, I'm not the one making that call. So, instead of working to change the system, I was just hoping to figure out how to work within the system.
