The Apple (very rough) analog to On-The-Go is iCloud File Sharing, and storing the files on iCloud, or file transfer mechanisms including AirDrop and Continuity. These not involving local USB storage.
Continuity and Universal Control makes transferring photos and files around nearly seamless, for instance. Without the sneakernet part.
Yes, the Apple approach is not not particularly close to OTG, and there’s no automatic transitioning of external storage access. An iPhone or iPad can’t pretend to be USB mass storage to some other computer, for instance. That’s where AirDrop and such are used, or iCloud if you need off-device storage or sharing.
ShortCut scripts can work for some cases where OTG might have been used/useful, but will be a manual process.
There’s also no “autorun” facility, either. With all the security risks of that.
