cant set a folder of background images to "Change picture: every day"

I previously had a folder on my desktop filled with a bunch of images I used for a desktop background. I had it set to "Change picture: every day" so that it would cycle through the folder on a daily basis.

However, after updating to Monterey, I can select a background from the image folder but whenever I click "Change picture: every day" it automatically changes the desktop back to a default one. How can I get my background to change every day from a folder of images?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.4

FWIW, you can try booting into Safe Mode, then boot normally. Sometimes that will resolve a problem.

Other than that, I don't know. It works fine for me on more than one Mac.

Okay well, when I add a folder of images, in my example "JPGs", select one of the images and enable "Change picture:", it does exactly that.

If yours doesn't work, perhaps there's something about the format of the images.

Did you select one of the images in the folder you added before you clicked "Change picture:"?

yes. if i select "change picture" first and then select an image from the folder it simply deselects "change picture".
