IOS 7 phone and Norton VPN subscription..

Is it possible that an algorithm by a hacker placed my number on call lists that are continually forwarded (number given or sold) to new firms for their lists to call me again-how to stop calls from coming even though I blocked a dozen or more initially and 60-80 calls in 5 days. Phone calls and texts from various phone numbers or numbers starting with “V” caller IDs (junk) every 5-15 mins, automated voice mails.

calls-about financial incentives or insurance. (guessing) my number keeps getting added to new lists.

i silenced all unknown calls” under settings. I blocked many numbers and “unsubscribed” on texts. Norton has a feature to filter spam texts-so fewer junk texts now. This feature doesn’t filter or block (junk) phone calls.

Added number to National do not call list 3 days ago, (was sure it was registered but they said wasn’t. None of this has helped, still 20 a day, too many to keep track or report to the “registry”.

Welcome to the real world. You can’t stop this, period. No person, no app, no carrier can stop it. It’s a cat and mouse game between carriers and advertisers with the advertisers always figuring ways to get around the barriers.

And the chance that some random ‘hacker’ selected your phone number is as close to zero as it gets. Nope, phone numbers are dialed sequentially by robot dialers. If someone answers they are put through to a call center rep and the number is recorded as active for future calls. That’s how this works. These people can also make any name or number appear on your Caller ID screen. I’ve even received calls where the Caller ID screen says it me calling myself!

I am guessing the “National do not call registry” fixed my flood of calls.

Today (Monday) normally busy with random junk calls but none. So quiet I thought my phone must be broken! Still some junk texts but fewer and manageable-I just block the caller/numbers then delete text.

Last week decided to answer 1 or 2 calls (I knew were spam), asked please take me off list, said they would, maybe helped but my but my best guess is to double check to make sure your number is on the “National do not call list” and wait couple weeks to see changes.

Can’t prove it but I think it was removed in error and (problem started) then I had to register again. Hope helps.
