Hello p-a-c,

There are a few reasons this may have occurred. Have you recently made any changes to your Apple ID, such as changing the password or making updates to your iCloud email address/alias? If so, embellish on what type of changes were made.

If you changed the Apple ID password recently, you may just need to update the password on your Mac and iPhone. On the iPhone, you can go to Settings > [your name] > Password & Security and update your password. While you're under Settings > [your name], click on iCloud. Then, tap on iCloud Mail. Make sure that is enabled.

Next, check your Mac settings. For this, you can open System Preferences > Apple ID, then click on the Password & Security tab. Update your password for the Apple ID here as needed. On this page, also make sure that iCloud Mail is enabled here. If not, enable it.

If you encounter an issue with your Apple ID password, you'll need to follow the guidance on this page to reset your Apple ID password: If you forgot your Apple ID password - Apple Support. You may also find the steps on this page helpful: Set up iCloud for Mail on all your devices - Apple Support.

Kind regards!
