Software upgrade for iPhone to connect to iMac

I get the window saying I need to update my software in order to have my iPhone (or iPad) connect to the iMac when I plug it in to the USB port. When I click INSTALL it says it is downloading but the progress bar never moves and it never completes. How to I get this update installed if this path doesn't work. Running 11.6.7

When I connect the iphone to the imac via usb, i get a message saying "a software update is required to connect to iphone". I click on install and nothing ever happens. Software update for connecting iphone to Mac When I try to connect my iphone XR to my Mac I get a notice saying a software update is required. When I click on "Install" I get a popup that says "Installing." The progress bar is already filled in and it just sits there. I've left it up for over thirty minutes and nothing seems to happen. Updating iPhone 15 to iOS 17.6.1 via Finder on iMac How can I update my iPhone 15 (iOS 17.6.1) to the "newer" version my iMac tells me is available (iOS 17.6.1)? I've tried it once and the iMac tells me it's done it. Then, whenever I connect the iPhone to the iMac to back up and sync files, the iMac tells me "A newer version of the iPhone software is available (version 17.6.1). To update your iPhone with the latest software, click Update." In Finder the iMac displays the current iPhone Software: iOS 17.6.1. Everything appears to be OK with the iPhone and Settings shows it has iOS 17.6.1. Should I just keep clicking that Update button until they agree or wait for the next update?

Try boot the computer in safe mode Start up your Mac in safe mode – Apple Support (UK)

And see if the problem persists. Most of the time these kind of downloads will download when excecuted in safe mode
