I would like to change the password for my apple mail account and I am unable to find out where to do this. My apple id is set to a gmail address. So apple iD and apple mail have separate passwords.

If you are posting about your iCloud email address, the password should be the same as your Apple ID password. The gmail email account can have a different password than the iCloud email account. Is the iCloud email your are using tied to a different Apple ID?
The Apple ID signs in as ******@gmail.com. with a password. Apple mail ( icloud mail is *****@me.com or icloud.com.
The apple id was created before I had an apple mail account.
