Why am I getting a message on my phone to change my Apple ID

Most of the times these messages are scams, don't click on anything. Can you tell us the exact message so that we can help you further determine if it's a scam of if its legit

I received this message today as well prompting me to change my Apple ID password. I got a text from 81961 with the wording "Your Apple ID Code is: ******. Don't share it with anyone."

There was another prompt that came up when I opened my phone that was asking for permission to allow Apple to change my password. I did not request this change so I hit Don't Allow. The text message does not give an option to say "this wasn't me" so I figured it was some kind of scam.
