iCloud Drive Copying Stuck

I have a 2 terabyte iCloud account where I store files from my iMac. When I copy files to iCloud folders I see a circle next to iCloud Drive with a black wedge indicating that files need to be copied. When all the files are copied, the black wedge disappears and there's just an empty circle. For the last couple of weeks, there's been a tiny black wedge that hasn't changed. If I click on it. I get a dialog that says uploading 4 items. Zero KB or 1.03 GB. How do I fix this?

iMac 27″, macOS 12.4

Hi danbaumbach,

Have you tried restarting your Mac?

Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support

Also, are these files you manually copy to iCloud Drive, automatically synced through iCloud Desktop and Documents or both?

Finally, have there been any changes to your network since you noticed this issue? Or are you able to manually attempt to upload a document to iCloud Drive now?

To tell you the truth, I don't know what these files are. I don't know if they're synched or manually copied by me. I have copied files to iCloud drive and those copies appear to work. There have been no changes to my network. It's just me and my wife on WiFi and we're not connected to one another.

I wish there was a way to know if this was a synching problem or just a copy problem. I wish there was a way to know what these files were. I wish I could just cancel the copy and start again.

Oh, and I've rebooted and shut down my iMac numerous times.

Sorry for my delay in responding, but I was doing a large copy between two external hard drives that I didn't want to interrupt. I restarted in safe mode and restarted again and nothing's changed.

I have other weirdnesses with my iCloud Drive and I posted another question about it here. I have two identical Documents folders and finder shows no Documents folder under my name. However, terminal does.

Understood and thanks for providing us those details. To see if you continue to view these icons and if the data is still being synced, let's have you restart the Mac in safe mode. This helps to verify your startup disk, deletes some system caches and more. This may help to resolve this behavior. Once the Mac is in safe mode, please restart it as normal and see if you continue to experience the same behavior.
