A shortcut to close an app

Is there a way to create a shortcut that will close an open app? Without the Home button, I often times find it difficult to close or minimize an app.

Simply swipe upwards from the bottom edge of the screen to the centre - and pause briefly before lifting your finger from the screen. This will open the App Switcher - and will display a thumbnail image of each open App. To force-close an App, just swipe the thumbnail the App that you wish to close off top of the screen.

Force-closing an App is generally unnecessary - as Apps that are idle will consume almost no system resources - and will relaunch much faster and using less battery power than would otherwise be the case.
