Allow Apps to use microphone / camera: No + in settings

Hello. I'm new to the community (using OS Monterey 12.4) and have the same problem described in this thread, though it doesn't seem to me that it's solved. One app (Skype) asked for access, this was allowed and it appears in the Privacy list but no other apps and no + sign. When trying to use WhatsApp it cannot detect a microphone, though this is installed and working. The Apple recommended answer doesn't seem to address the missing + sign question.

There is no + in there. The application is supposed to request access and the user should then grant it.

You should have a dialog to the effect that "(app name) is requesting access to your microphone" and with buttons to Allow or Deny. Didn't you see that dialog?

Skype on Mac requires Mac OS X 10.11 or higher

Can not speak to using this application since I move exclusively to macOS somewhere before Windows XP.

But their system requirements seem very dated as macOS 10.11 El Captain and above has a lot of wiggle room between macOS 10.11 and macOS 12.4
