How to turn off Blue Alerts on my iPhone?

I got two blue alerts this afternoon. What setting should I turn off? I'd still like to know if there's a tornado or impending nuclear attack. I just don't want to get spammed whenever a convenience store robbery goes sour. This seems like a great system for training people to ignore real emergencies.

That sounds like irresponsible law enforcement. Regrettably there’s no fix for that.

Thanks, I hadn't thought to check that. This what verizon says. Terminology is a little different from the iphone settings. I have a feeling I'm not the only person with this question today.

"These are the four types of Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA):

  • Presidential Alerts: About news of national authority concern.
  • Imminent Danger Alerts: Severe and extreme alerts about weather events and threat levels.
  • AMBER Alerts: About the disappearance of persons (minor or otherwise).
  • Public Safety Messages: Additional information on actions to take in response to one of the other alert types. (May not be available on older devices.)"

Agreed, I'm writing to the politicians next.

The technical problem is, there are several settings related to government alerts, and the available documentation doesn't really describe what they mean.

AMBER alerts (I know what that means)

Emergency Alerts

Public Safety Alerts

I'm guessing this is a public safety alert, but I have no idea what else I won't find out about if I turn that setting off.
