My HDMI connection from my MacBook Pro to my TV monitor has always worked until just two days ago. Now, only my desktop image shows on the TV monitor but not what's on my MacBook screen. I've used this a hundred times and this has never happened. What went wrong? How can I fix this?

I would do this if I could, but my external monitor is no longer available. It shows up in Display Settings on the Displays preferences tab, but the monitor gets no signal from my MacBook Air. It has worked just fine for the last year, and now it just stopped. I have tried fixing this via two different USB-C hubs that both work fine. Not sure if a software update caused this issue.
Sounds like you are using extended display mode. Drag a window to the external display. Or, check the mirror dosplay box in your display settings.
In System Preferences> Display, I do not see any of these options. Where would I find extended display mode or mirror display box in my display settings?? They aren't there
