Function window covers the cells need to write function

How do I fix this? When I try to write a formula, the formula window opens, obscuring the very cells I need to select to write the formula! The window cannot be moved out of the way, and I've haven't found a way yet to just write the formula without the formula window popping up.

I'm using numbers on my iMac 2019 desktop, Numbers version 12.0

iMac 21.5″, macOS 12.4

HI JCU,

You wrote: "I've haven't found a way yet to just write the formula without the formula window popping up."

Not surprising, as there isn't such a way. You can come close by entering your formula as text into a text box, copying it from there, then selecting the cell that is to receive the formula, pressing = (which opens the Formula editor), and pasting the copied text into the editor.

The great thing about the Formula Editor (other that being moveable) is that it immediately parses the formula as you enter it, and provides tokens (some call them lozenges) naming or describing what you need to enter at that location in the formula.

In a lot of cases, you'll be able to click, rather than type, to build a formula, and when you do type. Numbers will supply examples of where it thinks you're going, providing the option to move forward with another click.

Looks like you're already outgrowing that user name!

Hi JCU,

"… apparently it can't be done once I've replied."

Each time you post a question here, you get three tokens you can 'spend' to mark posts in that thread.

Two of them are "Helped" tokens, the third is a "Solved" token

Once assigned to a post, a "Solved" can't be removed or moved to another post.

Once assigned, one of the "Helped" can be upgraded to a "Solved" IF the "Solved" has not yet been spent.

Other than that exception, the "Helped" assignments, like the "Solved" assignment cannot be changed.

Regards,

Barry

PS: You're far from being the only newcomer who has marked his/her question "Solved" instead of sticking that label on the post containing the solution.

Regards,

Barry
