Virus and "Opera"

Good day,

A message popped up and said that my Mac has been infected with a virus and there is 32% or something damage done..... Was this message really from Apple? Also, there is now an "Opera" browser icon that appears when I switch on my Mac, as well as a funny "terminal" window, and I can't delete it.

What is happening? Can someone help?

Apple does NOT monitor your Mac for viruses. And keeping your mac current protects against them. I hope you did not click on any links the phishing offered.

Clear history and cache for your browser to remove the active "display phishing message" entries.

You likely picked up adware. Adware is a common "gift" from unscrupulous download hosting sites. Nothing is "free."

The only third-party tools most of the greybeards here trust for adware detection and removal are Etrecheck and MalwareBytes. Both developers are trusted community members here.
