Sony DCR-HC53

Camcorder - Sony DCR-HC53

Connection - DV to Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3

MacBook - Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020)

Mac OS - Monterey Version 12.3.1

Wondering if anyone can help, have recently been trying to connect my Sony handycam to my MacBook in an attempt to upload some tapes. Have watched several tutorials on YouTube that have led me to buy the correct cables, however when opening iMovie, the camera isn't appearing as an option when camera is in Play/edit mode. Have tried several different solutions such as restarting my Mac with the camera plugged in and without but to no avail. The camera is also not showing up as if its not recognised, even though all 3 cables are connected.

Have seen several people have been having the same problem as far back as 2007, so the solutions for them are outdated.

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated as I am stumped.

The update to Monterey 12.4 has cured the connectivity recognition problem.
