System files taking up too much space on my HD.

I got a prompt saying that I was running low on HD space. For my surprise I found out that the system files are taking up most of my HD space. I use the computer for home, so I don't run any heavy software, just the usual, MS Office, iTunes, Chrome, etc. This is a new Mac and on my previous machines I don't remember that the system files would take the majority of the HD. Does this seem normal?

Running Monterrey

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Andres

Locate backups of your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch and remove them

May one meant to say Music, Podcasts and TV as iTunes was split into the Three Separate Application starting in Catalina and above

What happened to iTunes?
