If I buy a cellular Apple Watch in US, can I use it in Mexico with a local cellular service provider?

I am planning on buying an Apple Watch to use in Mexico with a Mexican cellular provider. I was hoping to buy the watch in the US, but I have heard that the purchase has to be made in Mexico for the Apple Watch cellular service to work with a Mexican provider. Elsewhere I read so long as it is a North American purchase, the Apple Watch would work anywhere in North America. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There are 2 Apple Watch cellular radios

• Canada, U.S. Mexico, Puerto Rico

• The rest of the world

Carriers will not attempt to connect to an Apple Watch that does not use the correct radio.

If you do not get your Apple Watch in your own country, you may have to return the Apple Watch to the country where purchased to get warranty service.

If you do not get your Apple Watch in your own country, there may be country specific restrictions in the installed Apple Watch software that prevent features from working when you get home.
