In 10.6.2 you can no longer drag and drop transitions from the Transitions browser to connected clips, nor to replace a transition in the primary storyline. To apply a transition select the clip or edit point you want to add the transition to, then double click the transition in the browser that you want to add to the project.

You must have Chrome and its evil keystone daemons. This is a well known symptom.
for an explanation and how to remove them.
Then delete and reinstall FCP and have it return to good health.
What does stopped working mean? You applied the transition and it doesn’t produce the effect? Or you can’t drag and drop? That doesn’t work with any transition. As you specified those two I, and I suspect Luis, assumed it was not related to the dragging issue.
If the problem is with dragging, then yes it’s a bug in 10.6.2.
But since the OP mentioned Cross Dissolve and Fade to Color, I assumed, just as Tom said, that these were MISSING in the OP’s Final Cut Pro- and that is a problem that we KNOW is caused by Chrome’s keystone daemons.
I'm sure it will be the issue with drag and drop. I have expressed some surprise at some responses here to this issue in 10.6.2. Apple clearly state in their guidance that drag and drop is an approved method of applying a transition yet some responses here have expressed a degree of surprise that anyone would be using it.
I keep seeing posts mildly suggesting Apple have discontinued this feature but I'm sure they have not! No doubt we will discover the answer when we see 10.6.3!
Out of interest yesterday I completely removed Chrome and Keystone elements from one machine and left them on another. There were no changes to the functionality of drag and drop with regard to transitions.
Chrome has issues with the specific transitions you mentioned, but not with the drag and drop function. It seems clear that this is a bug, something omitted in the code. I haven’t found any other drag and drop functions that are broken, but there may be.

Ian
Transitions can be dragged to clips in the primary storyline.
Are you also able to drag transitions to connected clips, or to replace already existing transitions?
Neither of those are working, AFAICT, in 10.6.2. If you confirm it works in Big Sur this is a valuable piece of information, but I don't think that is the case. Can you please check?
It's nothing to do with Chrome - it's a bug in 10.6.2 and will hopefully be resolved with an update. Lots of threads here on the issue which I also am experiencing and I do not have Chrome installed.

Nope! I can't drag and drop or replace transitions between connected clips but double-clicking the transition in the Transitions Pane will achieve both those functions.
Thanks for confirming what I suspected. The problem is with 10.6.2 and it does not matter if it is run in Big Sur or Monterey.
i pick up a disolve or fade ti black transition n drag it over to the clip, clip changes colour as if receiving but does not actually stick on n so dues too work
Yes drag n drop problem
is there another way to apply transitions?
thank you so much for solving this fir me
but of bummer can’t use how I did
dunno what their reason is
hope the next version puts the drag back
but fir now onwards
thank you
I think double-clicking the transition is quicker and easier than dragging.
