How to get past "macOS could not be installed on your computer"?

Everytime I start my MacBook Air, it will end with, "macOS could not be installed on your computer". How do I get past this and update the OS?

How you get past it depends largely on why the message says it can't be installed on your computer...

Your Mac may not be eligible for the OS version you're trying to install. Current Mac OS, period and year of your Mac and what OS version are you trying to install please.
