Suddenly seeing the time (upper left) turn into an orange microphone on the left - NOT an orange dot on the right (that's also there) - sometimes the time has an orange background before it goes back to normal. What is this?
(Pay no attention to the actual time - it took me a few tries to screenshot the microphone and orange background because they flash so quickly.)

If you see time in the orange, it means your on a call and that's the duration of the call. If there is not time, just a microphone, it means an app is using the microphone but is not necessarily a call.

Thanks for the reply. Your thoughts make sense but this occurs while in apps, not in a call, and also has happened while I'm just flipping through the home screens and there is no app open. I haven't checked during a call. Full disclosure: I haven't seen it happen yet today.
If there is an app running in background it will put a colored background behind the time. If you tap on the time it will go to that app; an easy way to find out which app it is.

It took me a while to catch it - it's just a quick flash. But I did get it to open Safari once. So maybe that's the culprit. Thank you!
