When I try to connect to the TV by using the box with the arrow. on top of. my laptop, the airplay to TV is grayed out and only the iMac is usable. How do I. get it to stream. from laptop to tv?

Either both devices are not on the same home network,
or AirPlay receiving might be disabled on the Apple TV box.
To solve, verify that AirPlay is turned on on the Apple TV box,
and verify that both devices connect to the same home network.

Everything turned on and same network and my Apple TV is 2nd generation, model 1378. It's still not working correctly though. I did have the Geek squad here before and it worked fine so I must have it on some wrong setting. Please help is you can. Thanks.
You may also want to consider updating your Apple TV 2 which is now over 10 years old and invest in an Apple TV 4K model. These devices are significantly better than your old device in what they offer, speed and abilities.
