iPhone will not shut down and apps won't open

i've tried holding volume/power button and will not turn off. Can't open settings/any app, make calls/texts. Also there is an icon in upper right corner that recently appeared next to battery/wifi icons. The symbol is a circle with 4 rounded shape corners. No idea what that is. If anyone has a suggestion to help would be greatly appreciated!!

Try and Force Restart your iPhone EXACTLY as shown below and see whether that resolves the issue:

  • Press and quickly release Volume UP button
  • Press and quickly release Volume DOWN button
  • Press and Hold the SIDE button until an Apple logo appears and then release the Side button (Can take up to 20 seconds. (DO NOT release Side Button when invited to Slide Power OFF).
