where can i download mac os monterey for my macbook air?

Assuming your MBA qualifies for running Monterey if you're running an earlier system it should come up if you go to the System/Software Update preference pane and click on the Advanced button and then on the OK button.
If that doesn't bring up Monterey go to the App Store and search for "macOS Monterey".
