Display Trouble

Can anyone help with my seemingly basic question, please? I’m new to Keynote, and have compiled a basic presentation on 15 slides. My trouble is that when I plug my Mac into my smart TV via HDMI adapter and play, both the TV and Mac screen show the presentation; I really want my Mac to show presenter view so that I can see the presenter notes etc. I’ve searched on YouTube and other help resources but cannot find the answer; they all seem to imply that by default the slideshow should show on the tv screen, and the presenter view should be on the Mac, but this is just not happening. I’d really appreciate any help in solving this. Many thanks in advance.

With the TV connected to the Mac showing an image from your Mac,, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement

if the Mirror setting is selected, click in the box to deselect as shown below:

When in Play, and the Presenter Display is on the wrong screen, press the X Key on the keyboard.

Hi, Gary,

Thank you for taking the time to reply; I'm glad to say that this worked a treat on my old Mac using keynote version 9.1. However, when I tried to do this on my new Mac using Keynote 11.2, the screen you showed does not appear, there's no 'arrangement' tab in the window. Would yourself or anyone else know how this configuration can be made on the 11.2 version of keynote. please?

I'd be really grateful for any help.

Many thanks,

Hi, Gary,

Everything was connected; it seems that in this later version of Keynote the configuration is not a simple as the version on my older Mac. With the knowledge you gave me about mirroring etc. I was able to adjust the preferences and settings, and now it's working perfectly.

Many thanks for your help, much appreciated.
