migration assistant: want to keep all information on both macs

When using migration assistant to send data from one computer to another how do I keep the information on both computers

That happens automatically. For best results, back it up and migrate from the backup.

Migration Assistant I want to migrate apps and files from my old Mac to my new Mac, which is liable to amount to several gigabytes of data. The instructions say to log both computers to the same network (I don't use iCloud or other cloud computers). My network is a metered mobile data account for which I have an allowance 10gb per month. Will using Migration Assistant in this transfer use up my mobile data? Or is it strictly a transfer between the two computers? thanks!

Migration Assistant transfer. What doesn't Migration Assistant transfer to your new Mac ? Does it transfer absolutely everything from one machine to the next or does it have limits ?

Migration Assistant does not remove any data from the older computer. It also does not copy over the old computer's operating system.
