iCloud Drive ate a lot of my files

iCloud Drive, which I mistakenly thought was a back-up system, ate about 6 months of my recent files. For some reason, it deleted them from my MacBook Pro 2021 hard drive, and from my 2013 MacBook Pro. Not sure when it happened, but Trash is empty. Is there any way to recover them?

How to recover deleted files who also deleted from icloud Yesterday i deleted all files from recents without knowing that i will loose them permanently. I gave the MacBook today to an IT and he was trying to recover the files, for several hours, from the hard drive with no luck. The files were also on icloud but since i have deleted them from my laptop there are not on i cloud either. Does anyone know if i can recover them from icloud? I have tried to go to icloud drive, advance settings and restore files but i had no luck......

No.. If you delete files, they are deleted on all connected devices. If you erase those, or it's been more than 30 days, trash is emptied.
