Corrupt Numbers File
Is it possible to fix a corrupted numbers file? I am getting messages that tells me that the software does not recognise the file!

Sorry to hear that.
What is the name of the file (including the extension)?
What is the exact message you are getting when you try to open it?
Have you tried launching the latest version of Numbers first (v 11.2) and going to File > Open in the menu to try to open the file (as opposed to double-clicking it in Finder)?
If you are storing it in iCloud Drive you can try signing into iCloud.com and seeing if it is Numbers for iCloud. You can then download it from there.
If all else fails you may need to go to Time Machine (or whatever backup system you are using) and restoring a prior version.

I feel for you. This morning I tried to open up a disk image full of important information and Finder says it is corrupt. I have backups all the way back to the day after I last opened the disk image, all of the same corrupt image of course. Arghh.
