Where does my email go?

When I delete an email from my inbox in Mac Mail, it disappears. I don't know where it goes but it doesn't go to Trash.. or anyplace else I can find. I'm thinking it has to be a setting in my Mail but I've tried everything I know to do. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to put my deleted files into Trash? Please help!
