Remote does not want to pair

My 3rd gen apple tv was just damaged and so i got another one but without a remote. So i have been trying to pair my old remote with no success. When I press the menu and right button and wait for 6 seconds nothing happens it flicks the light only

Please clear the link for any previous remote first. This can be done with the current remote. That is, do both steps as advised.
