how do i recover a song i just downloaded tonight. it shows purchased but will not let me redownload

Where did you download the song from?

If you download the song from iTunes Store, try this -> Tap Music -> Recently Added.

You should see the song directly in the secton Recently Added.

I downloaded from iTunes Store on my smart phone. It shows up but does not give me any options to redownload it.

When the song shows up on your iPhone, that means you have it in the Library.

The you don't have the option to redownload.
