My older MacBook is flashing a white screen with a folder with question mark in it.

i just bought an older MacBook and a white screen is on with a flashing folder with question mark on it.

Did you already try the troubleshooting mentioned in this article?

The previous owner may have erased the hard drive or perhaps even removed the drive so the laptop may not have a physical drive installed. For an older computer, a bad hard drive is also very likely.
