Monterey OS was wiped and reinstalled, now need to back up some of time machine data to fully reinstate the MAC

Failed Monterey install I was upgrading the OS on my spouse's 2019 iMac from Mojave to Monterey, but the install failed partway through. I tried to re-run the install twice, and it failed agin. Now, I just want to restore from the Time Machine backup just before I tried to install. But that doesn't;t work either.

Restore from time machine i was running Monterey. Backed up my Hd then when I restored it with OS from backup which wanted to use Catalina?? How Monterey doesn’t appear. Should I restore with Catalina then upgrade multiple times to get back to Monterey? this relates to 13” MacBook pro
