reinstall OS onto an old iMac

Hi

I have a 2009 iMac model A1224, which we want to use just for emails and web browsing. I ran the Recovery utility to re install the OS, and that is trying to install El Capitan. The disk image has downloaded and it starts the install process, but gets to a point and then displays a message on the screen that the OS cannot be installed.

I would be grateful for any assistance to trying to get this OS installed

Many thanks

Alex

Hi both, and thanks for your posts.

I did try via a cabled ethernet connection and got the same issues. However all was not lost as at that moment, we found the original CD's (in the computer box!) and we did an installation using those.

So we now have a computer with a nice clean installation of Leopard !!. All I need to do now is to work out how to upgrade from Leopard to El Capitan.
