Way too confusing to be useful free Apple TV

I cannot see an offer of a free Apple tV subscription when I open the Apple TV app. I have a new iPad and a new Apple watch. I have updated the iPad. Out of frustration, I ordered Apple TV so I'm apparently paying a monthly fee. How do I get the free offer

Once you have subscribed the free trial is no longer valid.
