Move ~/Library/Mail (and still use it)?
Hello.
The Mail folder in my user’s library is growing rather big. I’d like to move it to another volume while keeping it in use. Is there a way to do that (in El Capitan)?
Thanks
Mac Pro, OS X 10.11

Apple Mail is hard-coded to look for that ~/Library/Mail folder and its sub-folders exactly in that location. Move it and break your email. Instead, take the time to peruse your mail in Apple Mail and remove those messages that are no longer pertinent, or contain large attachments.

Sounds convincing, albeit unwelcome. As I’ve already combed out all unnecessary, I’ll have to look for a bigger SSD, or find a really good archiving option. For a machine as old as my Mac Pro 4,1 from early 2009, both tasks seem equally … cumbersome. Thanks Viking for setting me on the correct track here.
You are welcome.
