When I paid for iCloud, I thought it was backing things up on my Mac automatically.
Now I checked in there is very little backed up under Documents.
Where is all my stuff?!
Why am I paying for and relying on iCloud for backup?

There is no option to select what to sync other than the following: If you have iCloud Drive turned on in your Mac, it will (or should) automatically anything you save to or move to the iCloud Drive folder in Finder; if you also turn on the Desktop & Documents options it will do the same for everything in those folders. If you turn on iCloud Photos, all of the pictures in Photos should also sync. See the follow for more information.
On a Mac go to Apple menu > System Preferences > Apple ID > and put a check mark in front of iCloud Drive (and in front of Photos if you also want photos synced).
If you want everything in your Desktop and Documents folder to also sync, click Options at Apple menu > System Preferences > Apple ID > iCloud Drive and then put a check mark in front of Desktop and Documents there.

Apple offers iCloud Backup for iPhones and iPads but not for Mac computers.
It is possible to sync data from a Mac to iCloud if you turn on those options (e.g., iCloud Photos, iCloud Drive including the Desktop & Documents option). Syncing has some of the benefits of a backup (and the benefit of being offsite) but is not the same as a backup. Major differences include the fact that not everything on your Mac can be synced and the fact that if you delete something, accidentally or otherwise, there is only a limited time period (30 days in most cases) during which it can be recovered.

How do you "turn on" iCloud. It;s already doing stuff on its own. I don't see any options to select what to backup.
I can log onto the website for iCloud, and see *some* things were saved, but not the important things like work related documents
Where is all my stuff? I'm paying for iCloud. It seems to back up a few things automatically. But it's not backing up hardly anything I need from my Documents on my mac. There is almost nothing but junk in my iCloud drive.
