macOS Monterey 12,1 appears on system report as installed although I never installed it!

/Applications / "Install macOS Monterey.app"

you can launch it from there like any other application. The installer app will no longer be available there after it runs—removing itself.

Always advised to have a current backup before you do a OS upgrade—only in this way can you fall back if necessary.

I've never looked at that portion of the System Profiler before. Perhaps it is only registering the fact that the macOS 12.x Monterey installer was downloaded to the Applications folder if you have Software Updates configured to download to your Mac. You can check the Applications folder to confirm.
