Problems updating Yosemite to Monterey on Mac Book Pro

I keep trying to download Monterey for my Mac Book Pro since it's still running on Yosemite, but every time I try to download it from the Apple Store, it tells me my Apple ID or Password is incorrect. I changed it twice already and am able to log into my Apple account, but it prompts me to re-enter my info when I click the "Get" download button - and it always says that my Log In info is wrong. How do I get the OS update?!

i saw this posted on another thread — the issue is that these older versions of macos don’t have a place for you to add the code that is sent to your other apple devices. if you’re receiving the apple id code even though it says your password is incorrect, add the 6 digit code to the end of your password and try again. i just did it myself and it worked!

I just tried this on my MacBook. The only difference is I was already signed into Apple through the Apple Community. It did not ask for my Apple ID. Perhaps you could try it that way and see if it works. Here is the link I used. How to get old versions of macOS - Apple Support When I clicked on get, It opened on my desktop behind my webpage which was open at the time.

Apple Specifically outlines  If upgrading from macOS Sierra or later, your Mac needs 26GB of available storage to upgrade. If upgrading from an earlier release, your Mac needs up to 44GB of available storage.

Since this computer Operating System is outside of the perimeter of minimum requirements of Sierra macOS 10.12 as Oldest version that can jump to Monterey - as more measured approach will be required.

It is the link that the Apple support page gives for the download for Monterery - the window is an Apple Store pop-up window, so yes, everything is done on the Apple Store site. See the screen shot for the window that pops up. The additional login is what is refusing my ID/Password which actually works to get me into my apple account to begin with. I literally can't get to the download screen without logging into my Apple account. I'm like "***?!".

Yes, I can log it there - but the support page takes me to a different window to download Monterey - and THAT is where it says that my log in and/or password is not working. But I can sign in for virtually everything else - including to answer your reply (which requires my apple login and password). I don't know why I can use my id/password for everything BUT to access the download for Monterey.

Yeah, I've been doing what you've been doing - logging in to my Apple account (including through the community) and it still asks for my log in - even though I'm ALREADY logged on. The link lead me to the page that I've used repeatedly and I keep getting stone-walled at the login. Thanks for the link, but man, this is frustrating.....

Go to appleid. apple.com and try to log in. If you are able you can check devises to see if the one you are using to try and download from App Store is there. Since it's not recognizing your apple id, maybe it's not recognizing you devise as associated with it.https://appleid.apple.com/ You could also go to icloud .com and sign in to see it your device is showing in there as well. https://www.icloud.com/

The Age of this computer will Govern what newer version of macOS it will Qualify to install. Use About this Mac from the Apple Icon on Desktop - the required Information will be there.

With the above information in-hand - follow this How to get old versions of macOS and verify what version this computer Qualifies to install.  For Best results use Safari to commence the download as Others may not work.

Safari will open a redirect and open the Apple Store where the download can commence

Caution - jumping over all the newer versions and directly to Monterey on Qualifying computers is Technically possible - there are those who have attempted and were successful. Then there are those who attempted and had less than good results.

If this is a Production or Mission Critical Set-up - a more prudent and measure approach is suggested.

The above is from observations on the Apple Support Community Forums and IMHO
