Macbook battery

I bought a Macbook Air a year ago and left it in the box without charging the computer, now that I took it out of the box and charged it overnight it just won't charge. It has been on 1% for a long time and won't budge even if I plug it into a different outlet. What can I do if the laptop won't charge? It's behind on a couple of updates too but if it doesn't charge I cant install the update because the battery percentage makes the update last 4+ hours.

The technologies used in these types of batteries do not like to be drained completely dead and left there for a long time. It is likely because of that the battery is damaged and needs to be replaced. Perhaps you could take it to an Apple Store and the may have some trick to revive the battery, though it is unlikely. Regardless, a trip to an Apple Store or an Authorized Apple Service Provider is in order.
