Do I have to eject the TM Back Up disk each time before shutting down the computer

No. If you shut down, the disks will be disconnected. If you simply close the lid, or sleep, you'll disconnect the drives first.

Unable to eject Time machine back up, anyone have other suggestions what I can try? My Time machine backup has been working well but recently been unable to I checked the time machine back up. The only solution I find online is to restart the computer which I'd rather not do I've looked on a number of forums nothing suggested seems to be working. All my software is up-to-date and I wonder if there's a setting that has changed but I'm not aware of. Any thoughts or suggestions from the community welcome

How to delete existing time machine back ups on venturaOS? Having set up Time Machine - in VenturaOS - I was not given any options to exclude certain folders during the set up process. I ended up backing up a whole lot more for which I did not have space on the drive allotted for the same. I want to set up the Time Machine afresh, however forgetting the disk does not erase the old back up nor can I see the back up on that disk however the space seems to have been taken up already. Any help in restoring the space in the drive and setting up a fresh Time Machine back up would be helpful. Many thanks in advance.

As pervious person outlined.

If one want to guard against any possible TM Backup Drive from possible corruptions during the Shutdown process - yes eject the TM Backup drive before shutting down.
