On my brand new HomePod mini, I’m trying to lower Siri to a whisper — it’s in my bedroom and I don’t want to wake my husband at night when setting my alarm. Siri just says, “this is as quiet as I get“ at 50% volume.
Totally unacceptable. I was going to replace my Amazon echoes with HomePod minis, but if even this basic feature is missing, I’m now rethinking my strategy.

So, this is interesting. I just asked her to lower voice volume to 20% again and she's still saying “this is as quiet as I get," but this time when I asked her what her current volume is, she's now saying 35%. I confirmed automatic volume is off. What is gong on with these things??
I found the same 35% minimum for Siri when I tested it on my HomePod minis yesterday. Admittedly that was very quiet, and barely audible in the environment I was in, but might still be too loud in an otherwise silent context.

It's interesting, though, that it's acting so inconsistently. First it said as low as it could go was 50%, and then suddenly that number changed to 35%. Also, I think it's interesting that others don't seem to have this problem at all and are able to set their volume as low as they want?
Try "Hey Siri, set your volume to X%" and see if it will comply. Mine just accepted 20% for example.

Odd indeed. At this point the best you can do is use Feedback - HomePod - Apple to let Apple know you'd like more control over the minimum volume, and perhaps an option to suppress unneeded responses to simple requests.

That doesn’t work. I’ve been trying it on repeat for three days now.
Odd. Have you turned off automatic volume? Definitely working with my OG HomePod. I can't check on my minis for a day or two.

Yup, she still says “this is as quiet as I get“ when I try to lower volume any lower than the current volume, which she confirms is 50% when I ask her what her current volume is.
