I've reset the box several times, purchased another cable. The Samsung TV works fine independently, I can hit the same apps and not experience the flashing from the Apple box. The box is less than a year old and has current updates. I suspect it was the last update that caused the problem?

You mean the screen image? I would suspect something in the HDMI connection.
If another good HDMI cable didn’t bring improvement, then it is time to consider the HDMI ports on both devices:
Yes, the image disappears and comes back after a few seconds, then disappears again. Nothing changes until I restart the Apple box.

There Is only one port on the box, but I have used two different ports on the TV and purchased a new 4K cable, with no improvement. I haven't tried using the WI-FI yet, but I'm probably going to send it in, since it's under warranty.
