My new Mac has less storage (1TB) than my back up file from my old Mac (1.5 TB). I want to migrate by restoring back up file to new Mac. Possible?

It is possible if your old MacBook Pro is not used whole drive capacity or I'd say it's possible if you use your old MacBook Pro drive less that 1TB.
Even if you are using more than 1TB, restores selected files to new MacBook Pro.
