MetroPCS is not listed as a carrier that supports the Apple Watch.

Here is a list of carriers that support the Apple Watch: https://www.apple.com/watch/cellular/

If you do not want to switch carriers, then you can get a GPS only Apple Watch (for less money) that can do Everything the cellular model can do As Long As the iPhone is nearby.
