Annoying Orange Dot!!

How do I get rid of the orange dot that notifies me that my mic is being used?

I produce music, so I sometimes leave Ableton open when I'm going about doing other things. But now, watch any fullscreen video? Orange dot. In Ableton producing? Orange dot. I hate the orange dot, and it's useless to me - of course I know my mic is being used, I did it purposefully!! ****, I'd be fine with it as long as it was more like a notification that I can DISMISS. I get the privacy concerns, but this is overboard and VERY VERY ANNOYING!!

Anyone figure out how to get rid of this monstrosity?

AFAIK, there is no way to disable that new "feature". you may want to send feedback to apple by using this link: Feedback - macOS - Apple

but just FYI, i have a video capture device that is not compatible with any macOS after catalina. it stopped working as of big sur. so rather than get a new device, i installed catalina on an external SSD which i now use for any type of recordings. this includes movie recordings, screen recordings, and audio recordings. no orange dot at all. and since i only started seeing complaints about the orange dot as of monterey, i'm guessing it does not appear in big sur either. so maybe you can try one of those options in case apple takes a while to respond to this. (if they decide to change it at all)

Yeah, the more I look into it the more it looks like there's nothing that can be done...

Thanks for the link to create a ticket! At least I can pretend I have impact by creating a low pri ticket that won't even be looked at, if at all, long from now. Such is the way of things, I suppose.

Also great tip on the external drive, never crossed my mind that you could install macOS on a drive, I was thinking they'd only allow installs on an Apple device. Quite useful!
