Water damage

If the iPhone is supposed to be water resistant how is water damage not covered?

The Rolex Submariner is water resistant to 300 Meters. Their warranty doesn't cover water damage either...

Water resistant does NOT mean waterproof. Water resistance is not a permanent condition.
