I have an older car 2008 and I bought a aux cable but it doesn’t work. Would the Bluetooth cable be a better option?

bluetooth is a wireless std. so the term bluetooth cable does not compute
you can get fm transmitters which will let you connect the ios device to and it will make it into fm radio on a customizable frequency so the ios device audio will play on that "radio station" of cause this will not give you mic support
