question about speaker to connect to imac (late 2015)

I have a trial version of Apple Music. I find that the sound quality is better using the imac's speaker vs a Bose Soundtouch 10 connected to the imac via the headset jack. Is the sound quality using the imac's speaker going to be better than connecting an external speaker to the imac? Is there some way to connect external speakers to the imac via a hardwired connection that supports Apple's lossless music format?

One of the first issues that you will have with this speaker is that it is mono only by design. Even if you have more than one Soundtouch 10, they can't be paired for stereo playback. This alone would defeat any advantages of using Apple Music, regardless if you push audio to this speaker by Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or an audio cable.
